I. Program Statement
Pursuant to its policy and service commitments and regarding the implementation of the project co-funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Poland titled: Studies on the Contemporary Poland and Central Europe, which has been running at the University of Warsaw (Institute of International Relations in co-operation with the Centre of Polish Language and Cultures for Foreigners POLONICUM, Faculty of Polish Studies), the Polish Association for International Studies and university partners from the Republic of India (University of Calcutta, Manipal University, University of Delhi) and from the Republic of Korea (Kyungpook National University), the University of Warsaw is proud to announce the University of Warsaw’s Special Scholarship Program for Indian and Korean students for 2017/2018 (further referred to as UWSSPIKS).
II. General Principles
The guiding principles of the program are as follows:
– In the frame of UWSSPIKS students could apply for: second-cycle degree (MA compatible) at the Institute of International Relations for Graduate Programme in International Relations (GPIR) taught in English and for PhD studies at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies;
– In the frame of UWSSPIKS students could apply for: first-cycle degree (BA compatible) or second-cycle degree (MA compatible) at the Faculty of Polish Studies taught in Polish (they could choose one of the Programmes taught in Polish: Polish philology: Literary studies and linguistics or Polish philology: Polish literature and culture in the European and mundial perspective);
– All students from both the Republic of India and Republic of Korea are eligible for UWSSPIKS;
– There will be priority for students from the University of Calcutta, Manipal University, University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University and Kyungpook National University;
– There will be: one scholarship for the 2-year Graduate Programme in International Relations (GPIR) taught in English for students from each of the following universities: University of Calcutta, Manipal University, Kyungpook National University (3 scholarships all together);
– There will be one scholarship for the 3-year first-cycle degree or the 2-year second-cycle degree Programme taught in Polish: Polish philology: Literary studies and

linguistics or Polish philology: Polish literature and culture in the European and mundial perspective for a student from the University of Delhi; If the applicant’s record confirms his/her outstanding background and research potential, but the person lacks of proficiency in Polish language, successful candidate will be offered an intensive one-year preparatory course of Polish language and culture, before he/she starts the first-cycle degree or second-cycle degree Scholarship. Scholarship will also cover this period of an intensive one-year preparatory course.
– There will be one scholarship for PhD studies at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies.
– If applicants from university partners from the Republic of India (University of Calcutta, Manipal University, University of Delhi) and from the Republic of Korea (Kyungpook National University) do not meet academic criteria, the Selection Committee could select students from other Indian and Korean universities;
– The scholarship is offered for one year, and is a subject to prolongation based on the academic performance of the grantee;
– The scholarship covers the cost of the tuition fee for one academic year, welfare benefit (700 PLN for first- and second-cycle degree studies, 1470 PLN for the PhD studies), accommodation in a dormitory and health insurance refund;
– The Scholarship does not cover the cost of living, travel and other expenses;
– The University of Warsaw in co-operation with the Polish Association for International Studies and partners from India and Korea, conducts the evaluation and selection of submitted applications via document screening and Skype interviews with shortlisted applicants.
III. Eligibility Criteria
The successful applicants should meet the following criteria:
– Good academic performance records of the previous education stage;
– In case of Scholarship for GPIR and PhD studies at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies: Good English language skills. Standardized English language test scores are not compulsory. However, the applicants with standardized scores (valid TOEFL/IELTS scores: expired scores are not accepted) will have a competitive advantage. Holders of the International Bachelor or Master degree certificates or diplomas from high school with English as a major medium of instruction do not need a language skill justification document;
– In case of Scholarship for the first-cycle studies or second-cycle studies at the Faculty of Polish Studies: Good Polish language skills (minimum level of proficiency: B2, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), certified by the home university or other Polish language school or institution. Holders of the State certificate in Polish as a foreign language will have a competitive advantage.
– Motivation to studying at the University of Warsaw;
– Good communication skills and sociability.

IV. Timeline of Application and Selections
UWSSPIKS is implemented according to an annually developed and approved implementation plan. Implementation activities, the timetable and implementing bodies are specified in the table below:

V. Scholarship Application Procedure
To apply for the UWSSPIKS Scholarship, applicants need to fill out and submit the following documents:
 For applicants for GPIR and for PhD studies at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies: 2 Entry Words/Short Articles (each consisting of 2500 words) for the WIKIPEDIA about contemporary Poland (foreign policy, economics, politics, transformation, culture eg.) , written in English (the topic must be innovative and raise an issue from the last 28 years);
 For Applicants for second-cycle studies at the Faculty of Polish Studies: 2 Entry Words/Short Articles (each consisting of 2500 words) for the WIKIPEDIA about contemporary Poland and its culture, written in Polish (the topic must be innovative and raise an issue from the last 28 years);
 For applicants for GPIR and for PhD studies at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies: CV and Cover Letter written in English;
 For applicants for second-cycle studies at the Faculty of Polish Studies: CV and Cover Letter written in Polish;
Completed application should be sent to the Office for Student Affairs, University of Warsaw, by e-mail or regular post. Please, add a title in your e-mail or on an envelop: “Indian and Korean Scholarship at the University of Warsaw”.

VI. Application Deadline
Deadline for applications is July 17th, 2017. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
VII. Procedure following awarding Scholarship
Selected Scholarship Holders, in order to finalize the enrollment procedure of the University of Warsaw, need to provide all documents which are required by the University of Warsaw’s admission criteria (http://rekrutacja.uw.edu.pl/en).
